HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Health Department officials say there is a recent case of rabies in the city.

Environmental Health Manager John Schellenberg said a raccoon was killed by a family dog in the Colonial Acres area, and, after being tested in a Richmond laboratory, the animal was found to have rabies.

Schellenberg is encouraging all citizens to have their pets current with rabies vaccinations.

If you see a sickly animal, particularly a raccoon, the health department asks that you call Hampton City Animal Control at 757-727-6111.
