Portsmouth garage destroyed by fire

Dinwiddie Street fire

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A Portsmouth garage was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.

Chief Jim Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department said the call came in around 1:30 a.m. from a two-story garage behind a home on Dinwiddie Street in the Olde Towne section of the city.

Hoffler said there was a fire at the same garage back in May, and it was under renovation. The houses on either side of the garage were starting to smoke due to the heat coming from the flames, but Hoffler said no fire spread. The garage was gutted from top to bottom.

Viewer Paul Robert recorded video of the flames, and shared it with WAVY News 10.

No one was hurt, and there were no evacuations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Stay with WAVY News 10 for updates as they come in.
