Around 2:50 p.m., a resident in the 900 block of Calypso Lane, near Virginia Beach General Hospital, was notified his home was on fire by a neighbor. The single occupant was able to make it out safely and call 911.

According to Battalion Chief Brian Taylor, Virginia Beach Fire Department crews arrived at the scene at 2:54 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the structure’s roof. Firefighters had the flames under control by 3:19 p.m. and completely extinguished by 3:38 p.m.

The home sustained heavy fire damage, but there were no injuries. The three people who live there have been displaced because of the damage, but Taylor said they have a place to stay.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, Taylor said.
