ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A 100-year-old farmhouse went up in flames in a rural part of Isle of Wight County Thursday.
Fire crews from Smithfield responded to Stallings Creek Drive after learning the two-story home was on fire, according to Don Robertson, an Isle of Wight County spokesman.
The flames were contained to the attic of the home, but the whole residence sustained significant fire and water damage. Robertson said a quick-thinking neighbor, who is a farmer, used farming equipment to bring water to the home. His actions kept the fire from being much worse, Robertson said.
No one was injured, but the American Red Cross is assisting the residents, who are displaced from the home.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, but Robertson said it appears to be accidental in nature.
