Police ID 2 men detained after robbery, pursuit in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police have identified the two men who were detained Tuesday after a robbery and pursuit in Norfolk.

According to Norfolk police, officers were notified about a robbery that happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Spotswood Avenue. The victim told police that a suspect had approached him and displayed a gun before demanding money.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Mark A. Holmes, then fled on foot.

When police arrived on scene, they saw Holmes getting into a vehicle on 21st Street. Police said an officer tried to pull the vehicle over on Colley Avenue, but the driver tried to get away. Other officers responded, and the vehicle was stopped in the 3300 block of Gosnold Avenue, but the driver and passenger both got out and ran.

The men were caught and detained after a brief pursuit on foot.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Maurice O. Johnson. He was arrested for an outstanding warrant for a felony probation violation.

Holmes was charged with robbery and use of a firearm. Both Holmes and Johnson were being held in Norfolk City Jail without bond.
