Transfer QB Brewer seems to be favorite for Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – The title might just be the understatement of the yet-to-be-written 2014 season. Though nothing is officially penciled in on the depth chart, all indications seem to be come their August 30 opener against the College of William & Mary, Michael Brewer will start under center for the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Brewer, a transfer from Texas Tech University, says he’s still learning the playbook, but feels “pretty good” about where he is now. “Just picking it up over the summer, working with the guys on our own out there, doing 7-on-7 and drills and all that, that’s helped me a lot,” said Brewer, who threw five touchdown passes is two seasons with the Red Raiders,

“Then coach Loeffler is just installing the offense day by day, and bringing it along slowly but surely.”

Assuming he is the one starting for Head Coach Frank Beamer, he’ll be working ahead of redshirt-sophomore Brenden Mottley and redshirt-senior Mark Leal. Leal saw significant snaps against UCLA in last season’s Sun Bowl, but only completed just 12-of-25 passes for 130 yards and two interceptions.
