PD: Car crashed into building, occupants ran away

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were taken into police custody after crashing a vehicle into a Newport News building Wednesday afternoon.

Lou Thurston with Newport News police said a vehicle traveling west on Oyster Point Road jumped a the right curb, went off the road and into a parking lot, where it struck an office building.

There were two people inside the vehicle that ran, once the vehicle came to a stop. Officers were able to catch them a short distance away, but they have not been charged, at this time.

No one was injured, and Thurston did not know the extent of damage to the building. Thurston said it is also unknown what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
