DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Dare County officials have created a campaign to help emergency responders locate people who call ‘911.’

Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie says it is important to know your location so emergency personnel can reach you.

Dare County put together a video depicting a scenario where a tourist staying at a rental property needs emergency help, but cannot find the address to give to a dispatcher.

Sheriff Doughtie said if you are staying at a vacation rental, you should make sure everyone in your party knows the address. He also advises you to be mindful of where you enter the beach, taking note of the closest street or mile post.
