ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police confirm a woman died as the result of a two-vehicle crash in Accomack County Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the crash on Route 13 (Lankford Highway), where it intersects with Route 852 (Temperanceville Road), according to Sergeant Michelle Anaya.

An investigation indicates a 2009 Mercury Milan was traveling north on Route 13 when it’s driver lost control and the vehicle spun into the southbound lanes. The vehicle crossed into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, causing a collision, Anaya said.

The Mercury driver, 43-year-old Tammy L. Ayres, was critically injured and died at the scene.

The other driver suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, but was transported to Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salsberry, Maryland.

Anaya said alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and that all parties were properly contained with seat belts.
