VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention holds community walks across the nation each year to raise money and awareness.
The AFSP says in the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes, claiming more than 38,000 lives each year.
This year’s Hampton Roads Out of the Darkness walk takes place September 6 at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach. Click here to register online. You can also register in person at the walk.
WAVY TV 10/FOX43 anchor Tom Schaad will provide the welcome address for the fourth year in a row and Super Doppler 10 Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler is another featured speaker.
There were 300 Out of the Darkness walks across the nation in 2013. The Hampton Roads walk was the largest for the 5th year running.
