Just before 2 p.m., a 1999 Freightliner FLD120, hauling logs and stumps, overturned near Lightfoot, Exit 234, according to Virginia State Police Sergeant Michelle Anaya. It’s driver was trying to enter the interstate from Route 199, when the load shifted, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to overturn.

The driver received minor injuries and was charged with failure to secure load, Anaya said.

While crews worked to clear debris from the roadway, drivers were diverted from I-64 West at Exit 234, according to Jennifer Gwaltney with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Traffic back up spanned more than eight miles.

All lanes have reopened at that location, however the westbound on-ramp remains closed. Motorists can use Route 60 or Route 460 as alternate paths, Gwaltney said.
