Va. Beach police conduct safety surveys

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Starting Aug. 20, Virginia Beach police will be knocking on doors to evaluate safety concerns in local neighborhoods.

According to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department, Police Chief Jim Cervera and his officers will begin conducting surveys in certain neighborhoods, asking how the community feels about safety and what police can do to improve it. Officers will also be handing out information pamphlets with crime prevention tips and other helpful information.

Chief Cervera said they should be able to interview between 1,500 and 2,000 residents throughout the four police precincts they are surveying.

Officers will be conducting these surveys on the following dates and times:

  • August 20 at 5 p.m. in the Third Precinct – Campus East / Lake Edward  / Northridge
  • September 10 at 5 p.m. in the First Precinct – Green Run
  • September 17 at 5 p.m. in the Fourth Precinct – Green Run
  • September 24 at 5 p.m. in the Second Precinct – Emerald Lakes / Washington Square
