YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police say a driver is facing charges after a serious crash on Interstate 64 in York County Monday.
The crash in the eastbound lanes was called in at 1:30 p.m. and an air ambulance responded to the scene, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya. WAVY viewers reported seeing it land on the highway.
Anaya said the driver, 21-year-old Zared Mohr, was headed east on the interstate when she fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a Subaru from behind. The Subaru was pushed off into the median, and into the grees.
The front seat passenger of the Subaru, who was a juvenile, and Mohr were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The Subaru’s driver and a passenger were taken to Riverside Hospital. Anaya said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Police stopped traffic in both directions near Camp Peary, exit 238, and detoured the westbound traffic to Colonial Parkway, exit 242, until those lanes reopened around 2:45 p.m. The eastbound lanes opened again at 3:50 p.m.
Anaya said additional crashes happened because of the traffic disruption. However, those secondary crashes were minor and only involved property damage.
Mohr was charged with reckless driving.
