Wounded turtle gets CT scan at Va. Beach hospital

Loggerhead turtle gets CT scan in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A loggerhead turtle named Wolverine got a CT scan of his head in Virginia Beach Friday.

The mayor of Tangier Island found the 70-pound juvenile turtle with a massive head wound. Biologists at the Virginia Aquarium are not sure how he got the injury and say he’s still having some trouble opening his mouth all the way. So they took Wolverine to get his head checked out.

The Advanced Imaging Center at Sentara Independence conducted the scan and the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Center will study the results to see how to best treat Wolverine.

Biologists aren’t sure when they will be able to release the turtle back into the wild.
