BLACKSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – For the first time in years, Virginia Tech enters the season without a clear cut starting quarterback.

With Logan Thomas gone, the Hokies lured Michael Brewer from Texas Tech to compete for the starting position.

Brewer, entering his fourth year of college, is competing with sophomore Brendan Motley and senior Mark Leal.

Brewer enrolled at Tech in May. He met with offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler and dove right into the playbook.

Brewer admits, the learning curve is steep.

“It’s definitely a process,” Brewer said. “Anytime you learn a new system it’s going to take a while, but being able to have those really short meetings with coach Loeffler and him emphasizing what I need to focus on and study on, it’s made practice go a lot more smooth.”

The Hokies open the season against William and Mary. The following week, they are at Ohio State.
