VSP: No charges filed after six-vehicle crash on I-264

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police say a trooper and another driver were taken to an area hospital after a six-vehicle crash on I-264 Thursday.

The crash happened in Norfolk in the westbound lanes of I-264 at Newtown Road, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya. The 911 call about the crash was received by dispatchers just before 6 p.m., she said.

Anaya said Trooper A. P. Leigh was attempting to pull over a speeding driver, when the driver made a sudden lane change because of stopped traffic. The trooper was unable to stop or maneuver around stopped vehicles and struck one from behind. The impact caused a chain reaction, involving a total of six vehicles.

The trooper and another driver were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the trooper was released from the hospital on the same day of the crash.

State police are actively investigating the crash. on Aug. 11, Anaya said there would not be any charges filed against any of the parties involved in the crash.
