CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the assault and robbery of an 80-year-old man, according to Chesapeake Police.
On July 16, police were called to a home in the 500 block of Longdale Crest in Chesapeake for a report of an assault. Police found an elderly man suffering from injuries to his head.
The victim told police he was injured during a robbery in his own garage. He said he grabbed a hammer during the struggle and hit the suspect in the head, and also bit his thumb.
Thursday, Chesapeake Police said a 16-year-old was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, robbery and conspiracy. He was being held at the Chesapeake Juvenile Services building.
According to Kelly O’Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department, a second person may have been involved in the planning of the incident.
O’Sullivan said the 80-year-old man was in critical condition after the attack, but he was able to return home from the hospital weeks ago and is recovering.
