HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Severe thunderstorm warnings have expired for two Southside cities Wednesday evening.
Suffolk City and Isle of Wight County were under a warning until 8:45 p.m.
Chief Meteorologist Don Slater said the strongest storms were over Isle of Wight and Southampton County around 8 p.m., when the thunderstorm warnings were issued. He said showers and thunderstorms continued to drop southeastward through the region at 25 mph.
Slater said the storm had numerous lightning strikes associated with it, and the other storms in the area had little to no lightning. Around 8 p.m., he said any of the storms could contain heavy downpours, pea-sized hail, 30-40 mph winds and some lightning.
