NEW JERSEY (WAVY) – The New Jersey couple killed in a deadly tornado on the Eastern Shore was laid to rest Saturday. Friends and family remembered them as beautiful people who died too soon.
Hundreds of mourners paid their respects at a memorial service for Lord Balatbat and Lolibeth Ortega. They died when a tornado destroyed their campsite at the Cherrystone Campground in Cheriton, Va.
The couple was on vacation with their family. Their 13-year-old son is still recovering from his injuries at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk.
The couple’s 12-year-old and 7-year-old daughters attended the service. Both girls are recovering from their injuries.
Donations are still coming in for the couple’s children. A business owner on the Eastern Shore started a fund which has raised more than $16,000.
