Arrest made in hit and run that left man hospitalized

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News police arrested a man Saturday who they say left the scene of a crash that left a man riding a motorcycle hospitalized.

Members of the police department’s Crash Team arrested 56-year-old William Lloyd Selby, Jr. and charged him with hit and run, being a habitual offender and reckless driving, according to a press release from Newport News police.

The crash happened on Saturday, July 26 around 9 p.m. at the intersection of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard and Traverse Road. Police responded to the area after receiving reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a red Honda Civic.

Witnesses told police William Sebly was headed west on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, and was trying to turn left onto Traverse Road against a red traffic signal. The motorcycle was traveling east on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, and collided with the car. According to witnesses, Selby sat there briefly before leaving the scene.

Police found the car abandoned near the intersection of Harpersville and Groom roads after searching the area.
