Seniors not only enjoy visiting the Zoo, but are an integral part of the Zoo Crew volunteer team (Virginia Zoo photo by Marie Butler).

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — If you’re older than 62 and you’ve always wanted to check out the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, now is your time.

Every Wednesday in August and September is “Senior Wednesdays” at the zoo. The park will celebrate senior citizens by giving them free admission.

“So many seniors — grandmas, grandpas and more — have taken advantage of Senior Wednesdays,” said Greg Bockheim, the Zoo’s executive director. “We’ve gotten great feedback, and even our train ridership has increased significantly on Wednesdays.”

Those wanting to take advantage of the offer will need to bring a valid ID.
