Newport News graduates new sheriff’s deputies

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Newport News Sheriff’s Office has seven new deputies.

They graduated Thursday night with several other law enforcement agency participants, who trained together at the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy.

The ceremony was held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Newport News Vice Mayor Robert S. Coleman was the keynote speaker.

The new deputies have field training officers to help them transition into various assignments in corrections, court security, civil enforcement, and transportation.
