NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A Norfolk man was sentenced Friday for the murder of a deliver driver whose body was found burning in a truck in York County.
In Norfolk Circuit Court, a judge imposed the jury’s sentence for 34-year-old Hassan Harvey. He will serve two life sentences and forty years in prison, according to Amanda Howie with the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Harvey was convicted of first degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit arson, and grand larceny in the death of 56-year-old Austin King of Virginia Beach.
King’s body was found burning in a Mac Tools truck off Interstate 64 March 22, 2013. He delivered Mac Tools, but coworkers told WAVY.com his route did not extend up to York County. Investigators believe he was murdered on Nevada Avenue in Norfolk prior to being discovered on the Peninsula.
Harvey and co-defendant Kasey Rubio, 19, of Portsmouth were arrested days later. The two were listed as owners of Top Dead Center, an auto repair and service center on Nevada Avenue at the time of their arrest.
Rubino pleaded guilty in November to the same charges. In March, she was sentenced to 25 years and eight months in prison.
