VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – There was a very special flight Thursday for two Virginia Beach 12-year-olds.
Angel Flight brought DeShaun Fisher and Michelle Velazquez back from Victory Junction, a NASCAR themed camp in North Carolina.
This was “Siblings Week” at the camp. Both Fisher and Velazquez have siblings with serious medical conditions, and the camp was a chance to for them to be the center of attention and have some fun.
It’s not only a great trip for the children, but for the pilot, as well.
“Oh it’s a tremendous satisfaction for the kids and all of the people. I like to say, they get out of the airplane and say ‘thanks’ and I say, ‘thank you so much for the opportunity to serve,’” said Robb Alpaugh, volunteer pilot.
Angel Flight’s volunteer pilots fly patients to hospitals and treatment centers across the mid-Atlantic region.
