FD: Va. Beach fire sparked by smoking

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Fire officials say smoking sparked a fire in Virginia Beach Thursday night.

The fire happened in the 300 block of Dillon Drive, which is in Princess Anne Plaza, according to Battalion Chief Jack Crandle with the Virginia Beach Fire Department.

Friday, investigators said the fire was caused by smoking in the bedroom, and extended into the bathroom.

One person was taken to a local hospital to be treated for burns. A second civilian was evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
