Police stake out, catch suspected ‘peeping Tom’

Arrested in connection to 7 incidents

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – A James City County man has been arrested in connection to seven peeping incidents in Williamsburg.

Police said officers were called to the 1200 block of Richmond Road on July 21 about a possible “peeping Tom.” Officers found chairs under the window of a college-aged girl’s apartments.

A week later on July 28, police received photos of the possible suspect, who was described as a balding white man. Williamsburg Police staked out the neighborhood where the suspect had been seen, and he was spotted coming into the area. Officers saw him peeping through an apartment window.

Burton Codey Rogers, a 30-year-old of James City County, was apprehended without incident and arrested for seven counts of peeping.

Reaction to the arrest from residents in the apartment building is mixed.

“I definitely felt there’s a good chance he saw me, at some point,” said a resident named Elizabeth. “I’m definitely glad they caught him.”

Caroline, another resident, said, “it’s unnerving in the sense it’s something you can’t control, almost. It’s outside your apartment. You can’t do anything.”
