Sheriff’s office: Dogs attack IOW Animal Control officers

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A pit bull was shot after Isle of Wight Animal Control officers were attacked last week in Carrollton, the Sheriff’s office said.

According to a news release, Animal Control officers were called to Pearl Court for a report of two pit bulls running loose in the area.

One officer located the dogs, and tried to capture them. According to the Sheriff’s office, the officer was attacked by one of the dogs, and got into a vehicle to call for help.

Two additional Animal Control officers arrived, and one of them was attacked by the second pit bull. The news release states the officer fired a single shot into the dog’s shoulder while it was attacking.

The owner arrived and retrieved both dogs. The dog that was shot was taken to a veterinarian, and released.

The Sheriff’s office said the Animal Control officers only suffered minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
