CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – An elderly man who was rescued from a house fire last week in Chesapeake has passed away.

Captain Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said 94-year-old John Jones was rescued July 23 after a fire sparked at his home on Oak Grove Road. Another fire at the home was called in by a nearby business on Friday.

Saunders said Jones passed away Monday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He had been listed in critical condition last week.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
