ECSU official dies in Bertie County crash

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — Elizabeth City State University said late Monday night that its Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management had died in a vehicle crash.

ECSU Chancellor Charles Becton released a statement to students, staff, faculty and alumni that stated Myron Burney was killed in a crash in Bertie County earlier Monday.

“The entire Elizabeth City State University family mourns the death of Myron Burney,” he said in the statement. “Please keep Myron’s family in your prayers and thoughts. Death diminishes us all. Myron’s death is a tragic loss for his family, the ECSU community, and human kind,” Becton said.

NC Highway Patrol confirmed to WAVY.com the two-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Officials said a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle collided at the intersection of U.S. Route 17 and N.C. Highway 45.
