2-year-old found in pool dies

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Family members of a toddler found floating in a pool Monday night say she has passed away.

The incident happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Culmer Drive, which is in the Ocean Lakes Neighborhood. Ed Brazzle with Virginia Beach EMS said a two-year-old girl was found unconscious in a backyard swimming pool.

Family members said the girl had only been missing for a few minutes, according to Brazzle.

Emergency dispatchers said EMS was at the scene before 7 p.m. and medics were administering CPR. The girl was then transported to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in critical condition before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

The child’s aunt, Catie, told 10 On Your Side her niece died around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Doctors are keeping her organs alive long enough so that she can be an organ donor.
