CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Police say a man who walked into Maryview Hospital with a gunshot wound Monday night was shot during a robbery at a Chesapeake gas station.
Ravi Sheth with the Chesapeake Police Department said an armed suspect went into an Exxon gas station located in the 1100 block of S. Military Highway Monday around 7:15 p.m., and demanded money. Sheth said the suspect fled into a nearby wooded area. Tuesday, police confirmed a clerk at the gas station had fired a gun at the suspect, though it had been unclear the night before.
Police set up a perimeter around the gas station. Chesapeake K-9 units, officers and Virginia Beach police’s air support searched a nearby neighborhood.
Police said a man, identified as 19-year-old Terry Graves, walked into Maryview Hospital around 7:40 p.m. with a gunshot wound. Investigators confirmed Graves was the suspect who had been shot at the gas station, and he was arrested.
21-year-old Michelle Barber of Portsmouth was also arrested. Kelly O’Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department said she was the driver of a vehicle used in the getaway.
Graves and Barber are both charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. They were being held in the Chesapeake City Jail
