Man injured in Chesapeake shooting

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A man was taken to the hospital early Monday after an overnight shooting that happened in Chesapeake.

Detective D.M. Boykin with the Chesapeake Police Department said around 2:20 a.m., they got a call from Portsmouth Police about a shooting victim.

According to Portsmouth Police, a man with gunshot wounds was in a vehicle pulled over during a traffic stop. Officers learned the man had been shot, and he was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Boykin said police later learned the shooting happened at or near the 7-Eleven located in the 3200 block of Western Branch Boulevard in Chesapeake.

Police said the extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown.
