Business office condemned after arson in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News business was condemned after an early morning fire Friday. Investigators now say the incident was an act of arson.

According to Battalion Chief Stephen Pincus with the Newport News Fire Department, crews responded to the fire around 4:40 a.m. at the Counseling Center, LLC located at 606 Denbigh Blvd. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the business complex when they arrived.

Crews got the flames under control in about 20 minutes, but remained on the scene for a few hours to remove smoke from the building.

Pincus said preliminary damage is estimated at $35,000, and the office suite where the fire sparked is condemned.

No one was hurt.
