OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) – Ten people were rescued Thursday after their 22-foot pontoon boat started taking on water off Bald Head Island.

According to a news release from the Coast Guard, the people were traveling to Bald Head Island, trying to cross the Cape Fear River entrance, when their boat started taking on water. The Coast Guard said one person on the boat fell overboard.

A Good Samaritan saw the distressed boaters and called the Coast Guard around 10:40 a.m. Two crews were diverted to the area, and rescued the boater from the water.

The boaters were taken to Station Oak Island, while the Coast Guard removed water from the pontoon and towed it back.

The Coast Guard said all of the people who were on the boat were in good health.
