Three Virginians get drug charges in the OBX

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Three Virginians were charged with a list of drug offenses in Currituck County Tuesday evening.

Around 6 p.m., police dispatchers received calls about a 2005 blue Pontiac with Virginia tags traveling north from the Wright Memorial Bridge. Callers said the driver was speeding and driving recklessly, according to Lindsay Voorhees with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office responded and stopped the vehicle in the 6400 block of Caratoke Highway. They found cocaine, Xanax and marijuana and arrested the three occupants of the vehicle, who were all from Madison Heights, Va.

The driver, 21-year-old Cameron Chad Cofflin, was charged with resisting a public officer. He as well as Charleton Blake Mays, 21, and Cody Edward Steuart, 23, were charged with possession of a schedule two controlled substance, simple possession of a schedule four controlled substance, possession of a schedule six, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
