Just before 5 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Sparrow and Providence roads. The driver, 50-year-old Rodney Dean, was known to officers for having a revoked driver’s license, according to Detective Boykin with Chesapeake police.

Officers then found items inside Dean’s vehicle that were consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamines, so a Chesapeake Fire Department HazMat unit responded, along with Virginia State Police and DEA.

After an investigation and collection of evidence, the vehicle was rendered safe, Boykin said. Dean was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamines.

No further information has been released.
