CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A South Norfolk road has reopened Tuesday after a tractor-trailer’s fuel tank ruptured during an accident.

Captain Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said the accident happened around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Narrow Street.

Saunders said a tractor-trailer was on Narrow Street waiting to make a turn when a trailer disconnected from a passing pickup truck, hitting the tractor-trailer’s fuel tank. The tank was ruptured.

Saunders said the tank was holding about 100 gallons of diesel fuel, and some spilled and got into the storm drains.

No one was hurt.

One lane of Atlantic Avenue headed south was shut down. Saunders said it was reopened just before 3 p.m.
