NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Fire officials say a leaking gas line in Norfolk has been secured, and roads are open to all traffic at this time.

Officials say a contractor hit the gas line Tuesday morning in Norfolk, causing the leak.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire and Rescue said a construction crew working on Parkview Avenue, near Cape View Avenue, hit a natural gas line around 9 a.m.

Traffic was restricted on Cape View Avenue between Kingston and Edgewood avenues, but roads are now open. A picture from the scene showed the road blocked off in the area of Fentress Court.

Virginia Natural Gas crews also responded to the scene.

Williamson said so far, there have been no evacuations.
