CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Eastbound Military Highway in Chesapeake has reopened after crews cleared a truck crash Monday evening.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Military Highway (Route 58). A truck hauling a fuel tank had run into a ditch. No one was injured.

Captain Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said there was no fuel spill, as a result of the crash. However, about 5,500 gallons of gas and 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel had to be transferred from the truck to another truck.

The company who owns the truck took care of that operation, Saunders said. A HazMat team from the Chesapeake Fire Department was also on hand to monitor the transfer.

After hours of lane closures in the eastbound lanes and miles of traffic congestion in the westbound lanes, Route 58 East reopened to traffic just after 11 p.m.
