EMPORIA, Va. (WAVY) – The congregation at an Emporia church will be conducting services at a different location for now. A massive fire destroyed part of their church Saturday.
Firefighters were called to the Calvary Baptist Church around 6 a.m. Crews from Jarratt and Lawrenceville were called in to provide assistance. They removed part of a wall in an attempt to save the sanctuary.
Congregation members prayed as the building continued to burn into the afternoon. The fire is believed to have started in an upstairs area near the back of the church. There were no reports of injuries.
