SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A 2-year-old child is safe after being accidentally locked in a car Sunday evening.

According to Suffolk Media and Community Relations Coordinator Tim Kelley, Suffolk Police received the call just after 5 p.m. for a child locked inside a vehicle outside a home in the 100 block of Little Fork Road.

The child was in a car seat and somehow locked the door with the mother outside the car.

The mother did not have another key in her possession.

Police arrived in less than five minutes and were preparing to enter the vehicle when the father arrived with a spare key that was used to unlock the car.

The child was examined by medical personnel at the scene, and it was determined that the child did not sustain any injuries.

Police told WAVY.com that the child was locked inside the car for about 15 minutes.

Police determined there was no criminal wrongdoing and no charges will be filed.
