VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Work on the new Lesner Bridge in Virginia Beach has started.
Crews are working on the westbound side first. The hope is to have it done by Christmas of 2015. The old bridges will be demolished in 2016, and the new eastbound side will be done by the spring of 2017.
Its a $78 million project.
The Lesner Bridge runs over the Lynnhaven Inlet. Engineers say it has eroded over time and needs to be replaced.
