VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach 911 lines are functioning normally, after having to be put on a backup system earlier Friday evening.

Dispatchers confirm all 911 an public safety non-emergency numbers are functioning normally, as of 8:30 p.m.

Earlier in the evening, 911 callers were asked to remain on the line and speak to a dispatcher because he backup system doesn’t provide callers’ location or telephone number to the 911 dispatchers.

The non-emergency, public safety line was also not functioning. Callers for that number were told to dial 757-777-6425 or 757-777-6359 for public safety service.

The cause of the system issues is under investigation.
