Norfolk detective charged for soliciting prostitution

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk police detective was arrested last week for soliciting prostitution.

Alan Lawson, 49, of Norfolk was charged with the misdemeanor last Thursday, according to Officer Daniel Hudson with the Norfolk Police Department. Court documents state the arrest and offense took place around 12:50 a.m. at 1153 W. Oceanview Avenue, a small shopping center in Willoughby.

At the time of his arrest, Lawson was assigned as a detective in the departments’ Vice Unit. Hudson said his last assignment was with the Investigative Services Bureau.

Lawson has been placed on administrative duty, pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Hudson said he was not booked into jail, but instead given a court notice to appear on August 11.
