VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say a teen was seriously hurt after crashing into a vehicle while riding a bike Thursday afternoon.

Around 1:45 p.m., a 17-year-old on a bicycle collided with a vehicle at the corner of Providence Road and Indian River Road, according to Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

An initial investigation indicates the teen was crossing the roadway at the same time a vehicle traveling north on Providence Rd. made a left turn onto Indian River Rd. Borman said the teen was crossing against the signal light, but the vehicle was turning on a green light.

Borman said neither the teen nor the vehicle’s operator saw each other, and they collided. The bicyclist was partially pinned under the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. The teen was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Police continue to investigate the incident, but so far, no charges have been filed.
