YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Twenty-five young football players in Yorktown will visit the Redskins Training Camp in about two weeks.
The youth football league called the Yorktown Patriots lost all their gear in an April fire. The team estimated $10,000 in damages. After WAVY.com aired the story, the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation got a hold of it, and the NFL team decided to cover the cost of what was lost.
Now league organizers tell 10 On Your Side they’ve been invited to the training camp in two weeks. And local bus company Tidewater Touring has donated a coach and driver to take the kids up to Richmond for free.
The Yorktown Patriots has 200 football players, plus cheerleaders. Many of them are from low-income homes.
