Settlement reached in lawsuit over inmate’s death

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A settlement has been made in the lawsuit over a woman’s death in the Virginia Beach City Jail.

It happened nearly three years ago: Investigators say Jacquelynn Diane Schwartz LaClair died when she choked on her plastic inmate I.D. bracelet.

10 On Your Side talked to her husband, David LeClair. He said she was put in jail for having alcohol on her breath when she went to court. He claims the caregivers at the jail failed to properly care for his wife. has a copy of the settlement, but the financial details are confidential.
