YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — York County deputies caught a fugitive this past weekend after they say he tripped on his “baggy britches.”
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office received a tip that a man wanted for crimes in Newport News was in the area of Wolftrap Road and Route 17. When deputies located him, they tried to take him into custody, but he broke free.
As the fugitive tried to run, his pants fell to his ankles. His legs and feet couldn’t cooperate, and he tumbled to the ground. That’s where deputies were able to arrest him.
“Well … baggy britches, with your drawers hanging out can be hazardous to your freedom,” said a post on the Sheriff Office’s Facebook Page about the incident.
In addition to the Newport News charges, the man was charged with resisting arrest and possession of narcotics found during the arrest. He was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
