Dog killed in lightning-sparked house fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Fire investigators in Chesapeake have confirmed lightning sparked a house fire in the Knells Ridge area Tuesday evening.

Crews responded to the 1100 block of Waterstone Court just after 4 p.m. The caller stated the house had been hit by lightning, according to Capt. Scott Saunders.

The fire was under control in twenty minutes and was contained to one room on the second floor, but there is smoke damage throughout the house, Capt. Saunders said.

The fire displaced the family of four who lives at the home. They were not injured, but their dog perished in the fire.
