VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Canada Metal (Pacific) Ltd. announced plans Tuesday to open a facility in Virginia Beach, bringing 70 new jobs to the area.
The new location will be the company’s first manufacturing plant in the U.S.
Canada Metal (Pacific) Ltd. looked into other locations in Hampton Roads before deciding to build on Horse Pasture Road in Virginia Beach near Dam Neck and London Bridge Roads.
“Virginia Beach has added another international manufacturer to our expanding global business community,” said Warren D. Harris, director of Economic Development. “This company aligns perfectly with our aggressive growth in advanced manufacturing. We are increasingly finding that international companies understand the benefits of locating here with an abundance of highly skilled workers and easy access to international markets through the Ports of Virginia.”
The Vice President of Business Development said CMP did extensive research into where to begin its U.S. operation. “Virginia Beach came out head and shoulders above all other locations due to its highly skilled labor force, excellent logistics and most importantly having a culture that personifies our desire to be fully integrated within the community in which we conduct our business,” said Jim Stuart.
The company will create 70 jobs in the next three years with average annual salaries of $36,000. Canada Metal (Pacific) Ltd. also plans to invest more than $3 million in capital improvements.
The Virginia Beach Economic Development Authority has awarded the company $110,000 in grant money. Their mission is to gain national and international businesses to increase capital investment and create jobs.
